RISE E-News Summer 2016
Hello CSRPs and RISE supporters!
Spring was busy here at RISE for staff and RISE supporters. A new year is under way, and with that comes a new
leadership team of RISE officers and directors—we are excited for another successful year. Read on to discover
the important happenings at RISE and in the solar and roofing industries!
2016 Intersolar North America
From July 12-14, RISE will exhibit at Intersolar, the most-attended solar event and premier networking platform for the
North American solar industry. Intersolar North America takes place annually in San Francisco and focuses on the areas
of PV, PV production technologies, energy storage and solar thermal technologies. Would you like to join us? There's
still time to register! For a free pass to the exhibit hall, contact RISE staff at email@example.com.
Featured CSRP Rooftop Solar Project
Our highlighted project has more of a personal feel installed by a CSRP on one of his residences in Larkspur, Colo.
After years of considering what solar product he wanted on his house, Gary Manlove finally decided on a BIPV option
that would integrate into the existing barrel roofing tiles on his garage.
After Manlove pulled utility and building department permits, the construction process began. As a CSRP in Colorado, he
was allowed to do the installation himself. He removed all roof tiles from the garage roof and installed new
underlayment and battens to accommodate proper coursing for solar and roof tiles. The solar tiles integrated perfectly
with the flat tiles, but he had to install custom step-flashing and insert weather blocking at the starter and last
rows. The installation time was 1 1/2 days with a two-man crew and half of a day for the electrician.
All the PV wire connections are under the solar tiles and feed into the attic. A through-roof kit was installed with
proper flashing, and there are no visible cables or conduits. The BIPV tiles are listed as a roof and PV system, so the
completed roof assembly was able to achieve Class A fire and high-wind ratings.
If you have a project you are proud of and would like to be featured in our newsletter or the RISE website, please send
photos and a short description of the project details to RISE staff at firstname.lastname@example.org.

project manager at Dow Solar, Denver, was elected as a new RISE director. We appreciate their time and dedication to
the RISE mission!
Solar Power International (SPI) coming to Las Vegas
SPI is an annual solar industry event offering a solar-focused expo, quality networking, professional development, and
timely educational content and training. RISE will be exhibiting again at this year's expo, which takes place Sept.
12-15 in Las Vegas. Visit RISE at booth W627—we'd love to see and chat with current and prospective CSRPs!
Interesting article about US rooftop solar PV potential
The Department of Energy's National Renewable Energy Laboratory has released information revealing there is significant
increased potential for building rooftops to generate electricity from PV systems. These new findings suggest the
technical potential capacity of PV systems is almost double the previous analysis undertaken and reported in 2008.

Solar Energy International (SEI) offers rigorous solar training program
The SEI Solar Professionals Certificate Program goes beyond a "certification test prep" format of training and takes
participants to a higher level of educational experience to truly prepare them for the solar industry and a career. SEI
training also helps individuals prepare for the CSRP exam. The SEI Solar Professionals Certificate program is the most
rigorous training SEI offers click here to check it out!
CSRP sponsorship opportunity
RISE is proud to announce an exciting new sponsorship program designed to encourage roofing professionals to achieve
the CSRP designation.
To encourage roofing professionals to become CSRPs, this program allows applicants to take the CSRP exam without the
barrier of exam fees. Waiving this fee encourages roofing professionals to take the next step in their careers and
become CSRPs. Two current RISE board members have offered sponsorship funds to launch this program. We are asking
manufacturers and contractors to join them and be recognized as one of the initial supporters of this worthy cause.
Thank you for considering this one-time sponsorship for the expansion of the CSRP designation. If you are interested in
participating, please contact John Schehl, RISE executive director, at (847) 493-7503 or
Next CSRP exam date
The next CSRP exam date is Sept. 8 (the application deadline is Aug. 5). The exam will be offered at a testing center
within 150 miles of your home. Spread the word about this distinguishing certification—encourage your colleagues
to apply now!
